THE FIRST IPL SEASON 2008

IPL 2008 was off to a thrilling start, India had just returned home after defeating Pakistan in the final of the 2007 T20 world cup. BCCI was interested in playing the T20 league because of that urge. Its main objective was to combine the excitement of cricket with entertainment and making big money. It was a bold experiment that changed the outlook of cricket forever.
The IPL 2008 season began on 18 April 2008 in Bangalore with a grand opening ceremony. Then the first match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore took place in this tournament with eight franchises representing different cities across India.
The rules of the IPL were set, one of the best moments of IPL 2008 was the emergence of Sean Watson as a talented force playing for Rajasthan Royals as Watson's all round performance was instrumental in leading his team to victory. Watson played an important innings with the bat and also excelled with the ball which helped him win the IPL 2008 Player of the Tournament award.

The competition started with a double round robin league stage, in which each of the 8 teams played a home match and an away match against every other team. These matches were followed by two semi-finals and a final.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals, led by Australian spin wizard Shane Warne, have emerged as the surprise package of the season. Despite being underdogs, they displayed remarkable resilience and teamwork to win the IPL title by defeating Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling final match held at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on 1 June 2008.
The success of IPL 2008 was not limited to the cricket arena; It crossed borders and captured the imagination of fans worldwide. One of the rules of IPL is that out of 11 players, only 4 foreign players can play and the remaining 7 must be Indians.
